Overview
Veterans Information Service (“VIS,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect personal information when you visit VetsInfoService.com, create an account, purchase VIS products or subscriptions, use My VIS, receive the Monthly Supplement Newsletter, contact us, or otherwise interact with our services.
VIS is an independent information provider and is not affiliated with or endorsed by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. This policy applies to VIS services and does not govern third-party websites or services that maintain their own privacy policies.
Information we collect
Information you provide
We may collect information you submit directly, including:
- Name, email address, telephone number, billing address, shipping address, and account credentials.
- Order, subscription, payment-status, renewal, product, team-seat, and customer-service information.
- A legacy VIS account number and associated mailing information when you use a renewal link or ask us to locate an existing account.
- Messages, form submissions, survey responses, saved resources, preferences, and other information you choose to provide.
- Information submitted by an organization or team owner to invite or administer authorized users.
Information collected automatically
When you use our website, we and our service providers may automatically collect device and usage information such as IP address, browser type, operating system, referring pages, pages viewed, dates and times of access, approximate location derived from IP address, cookie identifiers, and security or diagnostic logs.
Payment information
Payments are processed by third-party payment processors, such as Stripe. VIS does not directly store complete payment-card numbers or card security codes. We may receive limited payment information, such as payment status, card brand, expiration details, and transaction identifiers, to administer orders, subscriptions, refunds, and fraud prevention.
How we use information
We use personal information to:
- Process purchases, recurring payments, renewals, shipments, returns, and refunds.
- Create and manage accounts, subscriptions, organization seats, and Digital access.
- Provide the Digital Book, Monthly Supplement Newsletter, searchable content, protected downloads, and related member features.
- Prefill editable checkout fields when an existing customer follows a VIS renewal link.
- Send receipts, renewal notices, account messages, service announcements, newsletters included with a plan, and support responses.
- Personalize and improve our services, understand site usage, troubleshoot problems, and develop new features.
- Protect VIS, our customers, and our services from fraud, abuse, security threats, and unlawful activity.
- Comply with legal, tax, accounting, and regulatory obligations and enforce our agreements.
Cookies and similar technologies
We use cookies and similar technologies to keep accounts and shopping carts working, remember preferences, maintain secure sessions, measure performance, and understand how visitors use our services. Some cookies are necessary for the website to function. Where required by law, we will request consent before using nonessential cookies. Browser settings may allow you to block or delete cookies, but doing so may prevent account, cart, checkout, or member features from working correctly.
How we share information
We may disclose personal information to service providers that perform services on our behalf, including website hosting, ecommerce, subscription management, payment processing, shipping, email delivery, analytics, security, customer support, and professional services. These providers may use information only as permitted by their agreements with us and applicable law.
We may also disclose information when required by law; to protect the rights, safety, and security of VIS, our customers, or others; in connection with a merger, financing, acquisition, sale, or transfer of all or part of our business; or with your direction or consent.
VIS does not sell personal information for money. We do not currently share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.
Renewal and member data
A printed VIS renewal link may include an account number that retrieves imported customer information. The browser cookie used to maintain this process contains only a WooCommerce session identifier; imported customer fields are retrieved server-side and presented as editable suggestions. The associated account number may be linked to a resulting order for customer-service and record-continuity purposes.
Digital content, saved resources, searches, and future interactive tools may generate account activity necessary to provide those features. We will update this policy before materially expanding the categories or uses of personal information associated with future features.
Retention and security
We retain personal information for as long as reasonably necessary to provide services, maintain business and transaction records, resolve disputes, enforce agreements, and satisfy legal, tax, accounting, and security obligations. Retention periods vary depending on the nature of the information and our obligations.
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect personal information. No system or transmission method is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Your choices and rights
You may update many account details through My Account, manage an eligible subscription through WooCommerce account controls, or unsubscribe from optional promotional email using the link provided in the message. Service, transaction, membership, and legally required communications may still be sent when necessary.
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to request access to, correction of, deletion of, or a portable copy of certain personal information, or to object to or restrict certain processing. We may need to verify your identity before completing a request, and legal exceptions may apply. To submit a request, contact us using the information below. We will not discriminate against you for exercising an applicable privacy right.
Children’s privacy
VIS services are intended for adults and are not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information to us, please contact us so we can take appropriate action.
External links
VIS content may link to government agencies, accredited organizations, or other third-party resources. We are not responsible for the privacy, security, content, or practices of third-party services. Review their policies before providing personal information.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy to reflect changes in our services, practices, or legal obligations. The “Last updated” date on this page identifies the most recent revision. Material changes will be communicated as required by law.
